IPP Balanza: Konflikthåndtering i Colombia

CISV Blogger

Where are we exactly?
Our IPP is taking place in Bogotá, which is Colombia’s capital city and also in the department of Arauca, situated in border with Venezuela. We are spending our first week in Bogotá then 10 days throughout Arauca, mainly around 4 towns: Tame, Saravena, Arauquita and Fortul.

What is an (International Peoples’ Project) IPP?
As all CISV programs, also IPP is an educational program. The IPP goal is to give participants the opportunity to become aware of challenges in society and – in a real life setting – experience different ways of dealing with them. It appeared to us that we are not going to save the world in three weeks; instead we are going to learn through practical work and collect new knowledge to bring back to our own communities.

By definition, the IPP is divided to a practical part and an educational part. In reality, these two go hand in hand. The practical part is going to give us tools to learn: the partner organization, the community and all of us are going to contribute to that. The educational content is complemented by the information we gathered on how the theme is dealt with in our own countries. The activities organized by the partner institution gave more insight to the theme and we realized how our input and ideas will form the core of the IPP. Through the experiences of the diverse participants of our IPP group and the passion from the PO we hope to get to a high level of learning.

Why is this IPP so important?
We think it is important to pay attention to the situation and society in Arauca and to experience how alternative methods of conflict resolution can have an impact on society.

So what are we going to do?
We are going to work together with the Partner Organization to reinforce communities in Arauca through the tools of conflict management and resolution.
